He first started performing very young, at the age of 8 in his home town.
He then went on playing the snare drum with the city band. At the age of 10 Javier changed the snare drum for a Eb clarinet.
.
He first started playing the saxophone at the age of 16, taking part to various orchestra groups in Cordoba until age 20, earning his first real money. He also travelled outside his province to the capital Buenos Aires. Javier started putting together his own groups in Cordoba with a jazz sound or “contaminated” with jazz.
.
The type of music was too different for the audience to appreciate and dates started to come up with a more commercial style in ensembles called “quartetos”, more popular at the time. He signed up at the music school “Conservatorio Provincial De Cordoba” and followed the classical transverse flute class and the calssical clarinet class completing five years of schooling, because sax class was not available.
.
During his music school years he also worked with the “Vertiente” group, offering a fusion of jazz and argentinian folklore.
.
When the group moved to Paris, he stayed behind and worked with the jazz fusion group “Jazz 440”, with “Jam” another trendy group mixing jazz and folklore, with the jazz quartets “Enzo Piccioni” and “Juan C. Cialella”.
.
At the age of 19 Javier followed a seminar in Buenos Aires held by the Berklee College of Music which awarded him a place at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, U.S where finished the 4 year “Professional Music” course with honours.
.
While in the States he was able to study saxophone and improvisation with Joseph Viola, Bill Pierce, George Garzone, Hal Crook and Jerry Bergonzi. He also improved his music writing and arranging skills learnt in school through performing with artists such as Danilo Perez, George Garzone, Hal Crook, Bob Moses, Herb Pomeroy and other local musicians.
.
They have been his real professional school. He performed throughout the East coast of the United States with latin jazz bands as a performing act.At the age of 25 Javier travelled to Italy for the first time to visit his grand parents’ country of origin and fell in love with Rome, where he decided to stay.
.
He started off again playing in trendy latin music groups to have the means to form his own jazz group. The first one he put together in 1992 was called “Tercer Mundo” together with Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez. He also started writing music and arrangements for a new group called “Six Sax”.
.
He recorded his first CD under this name with guest stars such as Bob Mintzer and Randy Brecker.
.
Mixing his argentinian roots with jazz came naturally to Javier who went on creating arrangements and music that made his name famous among jazz artists, recording several CDs in the following years with his definite group “Aires Tango”.
.
His style gained him the requests of bigger names in the Italian jazz industry such as Roberto Gatto, Rita Marculli, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Peppe Servillo, Antonello Salis, Bebo Ferra, Gianluca Petrella and others.
Between 1999 and 2000 he gained much popularity, being requested for numerous gigs within Italy and outside, broadening his professional experience and curriculum, in particular the duo with Daniele di Bonaventura (bandoneon) with whom he recorded with the support of an orchestra and the duo with Luciano Biondini (accordion).
